3. In words
This is part two of a pretty extensive series. (Check here for part one) I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The reading texts are pretty complex sometimes, but after going through the first book, I think you're prepared for it. The vocabulary comes in quite large doses and the grammar gets rather rarified.
Every chapter has a reading texts, which doesn't get translated completely like in the first book. However, there is a wordlist, which includes all new word, with the irregular forms of some cases.
This book doesn't have any exercises in it, but more than makes up for this with a second book you can buy with nothing but exercises
(here). If you buy both book, you can be certain that you'll extend your knowledge of Finnish considerably.
Since it's a pretty old book - published for the first time in 1987 - the language is sometimes outdated, but it's still a pretty comprehensive guide to the Finnish language.
You can also get 2 cassettes with the book, but since I don't have a cassette player, I don't know how good they are.
