3. In words
This book is for German speakers who have no previously knowledge of Finnish. While its lay-out and texts are nice, this book doesn't bother to explain the grammar when necessary. Instead, it has a chapter in the back of the book, where all the grammar gets explained at once. I'm not sure if this is the best approach. I am convinced that you should learn the grammar together with the texts.
Still, this is a book that will motivate you to study. Its big size makes the lay-out very readable and the accompanying pictures are pleasant to the eye. There are lots of exercises, but the book doesn't include the solutions, which is pretty annoying.
